Good evening, Ladies and Gentlemen, and welcome to NBC's Thursday night smackdown! In this corner, we have critically acclaimed comedic masterpiece: Community! In this corner, we have six-season titan, stunt casting stud, emmy nominated The Office! To your left, we have critical darling with heart, Parks and Recreation! And in the last corner, comedy veteran, comeback king, emmy winning 30 Rock! Let's get started!
Community: "Competitive Wine Tasting"
Community starts off strong with the triple threat of Steven Tobolowsky, Michelle Kruishec, and the return of Kevin Corrigan. +5
"They spent way too much time working on setups. That teacher was so old..."+2
All of these classes feel very contrived just to set up these storylines. Detracts believability. -2
Donald Glover crying. +2
Interesting possible Troy/Britta plot development. +3
Kevin Corrigan's very meta "Actors vs Writers, Being in the Spotlight" monologue.+5
Continuity error: In "Communication Studies", Abed says he could never make i through the opening credits of Who's the Boss? -2
Just the right amount of Senor Chang. +2
Abed storyline ends with a copout...-3
...but a funny copout. +2
Heartfelt ending to Jeff/Pierce storyline. +3
Hilarious "Fiddler, Please" tag. +5
An overall feeling of rushing. There was too much going on and all three storylines seemed to have to sacrifice something that would otherwise make them wholly enjoyable. -8
The Office: "Training Day"
Awkward, unfunny, and rather lengthy improvised opening. -5
Will Ferrel not playing Will Ferrel (or Steve Carell, for that matter). +3
"Nope, it's not Ashton Kutcher, it's Kevin Malone: equally handsome, equally smart." +2
"Favorite regions." +2
Andy trying to be the funny man. +5
A very predictable main storyline. -5
"That baby could be the star of a tv show called 'Babies I don't Care About". +2
Parks and Recreation: "April and Andy's Fancy Dinner Party"
Classic Ron Effin' Swanson opening. +3
Not quite buying into Ben/Leslie yet. -3
Producing a real wedding and taking the counter to what most people would expect from this storyline on a sitcom and making us feel like this wedding really should be happening. +6
Chris talking to the creepy kid. +2
Mouse Rat! +2
Jean Ralphio! And his wedding speech advice, particularly using a Vince Vaughn quote from Fred Claus. +3
A great showcase on how Leslie has evolved as a character throughout the show's run. +5
A mostly unsatisfactory subplot with Ann. -4
April and Andy's video to the office from their honeymoon. +5
30 Rock: "I Heart Connecticut"
Jenna storylines = obnoxious. Jack + Jenna stoylines = awesome. +3
"The producers rented Saw, and they watched it!" +2
Pete gets a win! +3
Rob Riggle. +3
Uncreative use of the "He's not behind that door!" trope. -2
...and it's all a dream. -3
Tracy was hiding in Liz's apartment. +3
Phil Rosenthal cameo. +3
The return of crazy Tracy Jordan. +2
In fourth place, with a total of four points...The Office!
In third place, with a total of thirteen points....Community!
In second place, with a total of fourteen points...30 Rock!
And in first place, with a total of nineteen points...Parks and Recreation!
